WNBA Champion MN Lynx Guard, Candace Wiggins speaks to the community in the recent PSA created by Day One® of Cornerstone in an effort to highlight domestic violence as a community issue. Day One is a network of 56 domestic violence and community-based programs throughout 0Minnesota that work together to provide immediate access to safety and services for victims of domestic violence and their children in just one phone call.
The PSA premiered during halftime of the August 26th Lynx game helping to make the Day One® network visible to a larger audience. Partnering with the Minnesota Lynx allows Day One® to promote awareness of domestic violence as a social responsibility.
Media headlines so often call our attention to elder abuse cases that occur in care facilities, such as assisted living or nursing homes. The reality is, abuse in later life/elder abuse occurs 90% of the time in a home setting by someone the person knows and trusts –it can be a partner, spouse, sibling, grandchild or caregiver. It can encompass emotional, physical and sexual violence, or financial exploration or neglect. One of the best ways for us to prevent and address abuse in later life is by working together as a community. Day One® created posters in an effort to encourage older adults to call for help.

Women on Wheels will be hosting a pajama party this year at their annual holiday event. The new pajamas and robes they collect will be available at our Santa Shop for children to give to their moms as a holiday gift. Thank you Women on Wheels for your on-going support of the women and children we serve!
