Day One® Minnesota Domestic Violence Crisis Line 1.866.223.1111 Day One® is a Statewide Program of Cornerstone

About Us

Inspired by the stories told by survivors of domestic violence who reported making between 8 and 15 phone calls to reach safety, Day One® was founded in 1995. Day One® was developed through a partnership between Allina Health System Foundation, the Twin Cities United Way and Minnesota battered women's shelters.

Since that time, Day One® has become a statewide program of Cornerstone and expanded its network to include 55 domestic violence programs throughout the Minnesota area. Together, we work to connect domestic violence victims to safety and services in one phone call. Our collaborative efforts result in stronger relationships, coordinated responses to barriers and the development of effective best practices.

The Model

Day One® is designed to enhance the services that domestic violence shelters and safe housing programs provide when assisting domestic violence victims.

The Day One® model is based on...

  • Strong relationships between service providers and advocates.
  • Effective technology displaying bed availability and service information in real time.
  • Proven best practices for connecting victims to safety immediately.

Results of implementing the Day One® model...

  • Victims receive immediate, seamless access to safety and services.
  • Shelter bed space is utilized more effectively.
  • Victims are turned away from shelters and safe housing programs at lower rates.
  • Programs experience savings in staff time.
